Food Drive Delivery

Discovery set out to make a difference — and make a difference they did.

With a desire to support both the community and students during the summer months, Discovery Pride Pack took the lead in organizing a school-wide food drive. The team reached out to The Goddard Church, which houses a local food pantry, to learn exactly what items were most needed. From there, they built a creative, engaging campaign: each day featured a specific requested item, with point values assigned to encourage friendly competition between classrooms.

Daily announcements kept students informed and motivated, and Pride Pack members shared powerful facts about childhood hunger to help everyone understand the deeper purpose behind the drive. One statistic in particular left a lasting impression — that approximately 1 in 5 children in the United States, roughly 14 million kids, live in food-insecure households. Mrs. Barger's class took that number to heart and made it their mission to help change it. They were among the first to jump in wholeheartedly, ultimately bringing in over 1,500 points worth of food and declaring their goal to help make that statistic 1 in 20.

The competition heated up across grade levels. In 5th grade, Mrs. Cockings' class got off to a late start but came on incredibly strong toward the end, giving Mrs. Barger's class quite the run for their points. Meanwhile, in 6th grade, Lawrence's class led the charge all week long, with an exciting battle for 2nd and 3rd place playing out between Thompson and Henson right up until the end.

When all was said and done, Discovery collected over 1,700 items to donate back to the community through The Goddard Church food pantry.

We are so incredibly grateful to every family and student who contributed to this drive. You showed what it means to be Discovery proud — and more importantly, what it means to show up for your neighbors.
